Silverfleet Capital Partners LLP has signed an agreement with Avingtrans for the purchase of Sigma Components – Avingtrans’ Aerospace division – for £65 million.

The company has grown strongly since Avingtrans first invested in Sigma in June 2006 and now employs over 750 people at facilities across the UK and China, with an annualised turnover of £50 million.

Mark Johnson, founder and CEO of Sigma, said: “Having met most of Avingtrans’ targets and following a strategic review in 2015, we decided that now was the right time for Sigma to find a new investor to support its ongoing growth.

“We’ll look back at nearly 10 years’ ownership by Avingtrans with happiness and pride and thank the board for their support.

“The whole team is excited at the prospects with Silverfleet and their support to help our future growth. It will be business as usual for Sigma’s customers, employees and suppliers as we work to develop the business over the coming months and we look forward to earning the trust of both current and future customers following this move.”

The sale process involved trade and financial bidders from the UK, USA and Asia, with Silverfleet being selected as the preferred option.

David MacKenzie, Partner at Silverfleet commented: “We are delighted to be partnering with Sigma, a market leader with excellent growth dynamics. Silverfleet has a strong track record of investing in manufacturing businesses and we see an ideal opportunity to develop Sigma, which operates in a fragmented market place, both domestically and internationally.”

Silverfleet publicly states its role as ‘we buy to build’, supporting management teams to grow business value by delivering world-class offerings in their chosen markets. With a centre of excellence for pipe manufacture, a strong track record in aerospace fabrications, and an active R&D programme that has already developed composite pipes for aero-engines and a range of lightweight aerospace fittings, Sigma is very well-positioned in a consolidating aerospace market, with a strong team and many geographic and product expansion opportunities.
